Short answer (TL;DR version) : Tankless Water purifiers gives the cleanest water possible while saving up more than 200% of purifier electric bill. All because of tankless tech.

In my experience of seeing all kinds of water purifier in the market, the real advancement only has been made available recently to the Malaysian home appliance sector.

With recent tech advancements in water purification, better materials and design has enabled purifiers to be in compact minimalist size.

No longer you have a fat bulky water purifier on your pretty kitchen countertop. You can have a sleek design while having all the temperature you need.

Perhaps the only real reason to have a traditional water tank type is for a commercial area or office space with a high number of staff.

6 main benefits of Tankless Water Purifiers

Tank will always be larger than its tankless counterpart due to the water storage tank.

1) Tankless means no more dealing with large bulky water purifiers

Looking at water tank purifiers, most of the space is just for cold and hot water storage. This translates to a big purifier which takes up unnecessary kitchen countertop space.

Large purifiers are not suitable for small condos and apartments. You definitely want to have other appliances like your coffee machine on your countertop

2) Electric Saving for Tankless
For cold water; the larger the water tank, the larger the compressor it needs to be to cool down the water. This of course translates to a higher electric bill.

Tankless uses a compact inverter compressor to cold down the 304 stainless steel pipes which chills the water when it flows through. Better electric saving.

Hot water tank uses more electricity than cold since it needs to be heated up all the time. This especially means unnecessary electricity used throughout the night. Sleep mode functions are not useful when the purifier is always away from sunlight. You would have to turn on the kitchen lights to make it recognize it’s “day time”. Translating to more electricity use.

3) No Water Reboil for Tankless
Since there is no hot water tank for tankless models, water is instantly heated before dispensing. Instant heating is done through devices such as hot ceramic. Some may have concerns of water reboiling in stainless steel tanks as this can leave mineral deposit staining. Tankless purifiers that uses hot ceramic prevents mineral staining from occurring.

For small condos/apartments with limited countertop space. The tankless JIKSOO Hyper can fit nicely in the corner.

4) Super space saving with minimalist design
Tankless water purifiers can be as small as 17cm width. That’s roughly about a pen size. I imagine you’ll be grateful for the space you can save along with minimalist design that will suit your kitchen backdrop.

No more big water purifiers taking up your precious kitchen countertop space!

A lot of purifiers I have service have not been cleaned for 2 to 3 years. That leaves a lot algae bio-films built up. Yikes! Cleaning also does not guarantee hard staining can be removed.

5) Tankless gives you the cleanest possible water VS tank
Tankless purifiers minimizes the chance of bacterial growth as compared to tanks. This is because when water remains stagnant in a tank, bacteria like algae will start to grow (due to chlorine removal by carbon filters). Tankless ensures that water is immediately dispensed out.

I personally serviced tank purifiers which has algae growing it due to the lack of service. I have seen plastic tanks to be the worst choice as bacteria filled bio-films form on the walls easily. Imagine drinking from that.

Water tanks be it stainless steel or plastic needs to be steam sterilized and wiped down to keep bacteria as minimal as possible. For tankless design, such sterilization is not necessary as water is not kept.

6) Variety of hot/warm water temperature
With a tankless instant heating device, purifiers are able to deliver a variety of hot and warm preset temperature. Very convenient if you need some specific temperatures like for tea or milk powder.

This Ceramic Hot Module is what enables SK Magic’s JIKSOO tankless models to have multiple hot and warm temperature while saving electricity and avoiding mineral staining.

So, what are the possible cons of tankless type models?

From what I have tried, I can only see one con which can be overlook by most users.

  1. Heating before dispensing
For tankless water heating, you would wait 5 seconds or less for the heating element to reach a sufficient temperature before dispensing.

On the positive side of it, hot water is safely dispensed without you holding the lever of tank purifiers. This means zero contact of your cup, jar, or bottle. And no accidental hot water splash to your hands, making it safe since you do not have to hold a cup to press against a lever.

And the bigger positive is that you save a great deal over the electricity bill with tankless. Hot tanks eat up the most power because of constant heating 24/7.

Like JIKSOO Hyper, there is no hot storage tank. It’s all heating on demand.

Normally you would use your cup to press against the lever to release the water on most tank designs. This would also mean contamination between your cup and the tank purifier.

I believe that tankless water purifiers are the way forward now. Personally, I don’t see traditional tank types to needed for homes due to higher electric consumption and bulky design. If high volume tank it’s needed, it’ll only be served for office, restaurants and cafes. Even with that, UV-C wave light sterilizer is needed in water tanks and water tab to keep bacteria away.

So, by all means choose a tankless water purifier for its compact design, maximum water hygiene, energy saving and multiple temperature ability.
